Efeito dos probióticos na redução do streptococcus mutans em pacientes infantis.

Introdução: Na Odontopediatria, os probióticos representam uma nova área de pesquisa focada na Bacterioterapia. Esses probióticos modulam a viabilidade e adesão de bactérias cariogênicas, competindo pela adesão nas superfícies dentárias e modificando o ambiente circundante, o que ajuda a modular o pH. Objetivo: Comparar o efeito do consumo a curto prazo de duas cepas de probióticos sobre a contagem de unidades formadoras de colônias de Streptococcus mutans, bem como avaliar com tiras reativas a mudança no pH salivar em pacientes infantis em um estudo in vitro. Materiais e métodos: Foram administradas duas cepas de probióticos a 10 crianças de 6-12 anos com cárie, designadas aleatoriamente a dois grupos. Um grupo consumiu uma pastilha de probiótico (Grupo I), enquanto o outro tomou 6 gotas diárias (Grupo II) durante 28 dias. O pH e a contagem de Streptococcus mutans foram registrados nos dias 0, 15 e 28, e comparados estatisticamente utilizando os testes de Friedman e Dunn. Resultados: Foi obtida uma redução significativa de Streptococcus mutans com a aplicação de Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG com Lactobacillus acidophilus (p<0,0239) entre o dia 0 e 15, com mudanças no pH salivar (p<0,0008), em comparação com Bifidobacterium lactis BB-12 com Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG (p<0,0085) entre o dia 0 e 29, sem observar mudanças no pH salivar. Conclusões: A combinação de probióticos (Bifidobacterium lactis BB-12 com Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG) reduziu significativamente Streptococcus mutans a curto prazo, enquanto a combinação (Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG com Lactobacillus acidophilus) ajudou a neutralizar os parâmetros do pH salivar.
