Policy for the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Academic Research
The Journal of Latin American Pediatric Dentistry recognizes the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the production of knowledge and promotes its use in an ethical and transparent manner. Several international guidelines emphasize the importance of explicitly detailing how these tools have been used in research, ensuring the integrity, reproducibility and reliability of the studies. In this context, up to 25% of the content of an article is allowed to have been assisted in its writing by AI, provided that its use is clearly indicated in the manuscript, with an explanation of its nature and purpose. However, conceptual content cannot be generated by AI, and any contribution of these tools to information retrieval must be cited appropriately and in accordance with the Vancouver format.
Transparency in the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Academic Research
Various guidelines on the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scientific research agree on a fundamental principle: the need for transparency. To ensure the integrity, reproducibility and reliability of studies, researchers using these tools should specify, both in the cover letter and in the manuscript, how AI has been used in the development of the research. This commitment to transparency is essential to strengthen the credibility of the findings and to align with internationally recognized academic best practices.
Images generated or manipulated by AI that may mislead or confuse the reader are strictly prohibited. Failure to comply with these rules may result in rejection of the manuscript or post-publication corrective action.
This policy seeks to ensure scientific accuracy, ethics in published contributions and reader confidence, protecting the integrity of the content and promoting best practices in academic research.
