A orientação comportamental do paciente infantil é um dos aspectos mais importantes da prática odontológica pediátrica. Como resultado das mudanças sociais ocorridas nos últimos 25 anos, especialmente no estilo parental, algumas técnicas clássicas de orientação comportamental foram rejeitadas porque os país as consideram pouco apropriadas para seus filhos. Isto levou não só à diminuição do seu emprego, mas também a mudanças na formação nesta matéria nos programas universitários de Odontopediatria de grau e pós-graduação. Atualmente ensinam-se menos as técnicas consideradas aversivas, reforçando a formação do uso de técnicas comunicativas e farmacológicas para evitar à criança qualquer situação que os país possam considerar desagradável e mesmo potencialmente traumática. Este estudo realizou uma revisão da literatura sobre as técnicas de orientação comportamental mais utilizadas atualmente por odontopediatras, as mais ensinadas nos programas de formação de Odontologia e a influência da aceitação parental em tudo isso.
