Abstract

Oral health plays an important role in well-being and cannot be neglected, especially in situations of health crisis such as the Covid-19 pandemic, which limits access to health services for treatment, controls and follow-up in patients with special conditions. Therefore, we report the clinical case of an 8-year-old girl diagnosed with Down syndrome treated through tele-guidance in dentistry. Design and application of family and oral risk assessment instruments b. Orientation in oral and family health c. Follow-up of activities. Instruments were designed to be applied and to be able to investigate study variables; the state of oral health was done through oral photographs. The tele-guidance lasted 3 months, with a weekly meeting using the WhatsApp application. Risk factors for the health of the patient and her family were identified, such as the presence of dental biofilm, high sugar consumption, low frequency of oral brushing, limited source of income due to the Covid-19 pandemic, among others. The patient's mother manages to reduce the risk factors including the patient's own risks; therefore, it is concluded that the teleorientation in dentistry represents a valuable resource for comprehensive care in oral health and with a focus on risk during times of crisis and pandemic such as the current Covid-19 pandemic for the care of patients with Down Syndrome.
